The Green Bathroom

In the new millennia the group of environmentally concerned people is growing.  People are more and more concerned with emissions, wastes, pollution, global warming, deforesting, animal cruelty and a whole slough of problems.  The good news is governments, corporations, and contractors are responding.  You as a home owner or a professional have a lot of options when it comes to how to make your home “green” and save the environment, or hopefully a lot of cash.

HansGrohe Showers

Aside from being one of the premier faucet manufacturers, HansGrohe also does a lot for the environment. The company, which was founded in 1901, has lead the way in making sure that your shower experience is relaxing, fulfilling, and environmentally sound.  The company introduced a finishing process that reduced waste and kept the waters near the plant cleaner.  The manufacturer’s largest plant was, as of 1993, the largest solar panel project in the world making the plant its own source for the electricity it needs.  HansGrohe also implemented a conservation device that would reduce the water used in their thermostatic valves while maintaining 100% of the enjoyment.  The company has continued to innovate, implementing the federally mandated flow restrictors in shower heads, but developing air injection technology to make the pressure seem unchanged. 

American Standard Toilets

American Standard is synonymous with American made quality.  You find it in many of your friend’s bathrooms, and in many commercial applications.  American Standard is jumping into the conservation game with its FloWise series. The FloWise toilets will use only 80% of the water your conventional toilet uses.  20% may not sound like much, but its 1,000 gallons in a year on average.  American Standard also has a rebate calculator on their site, possibly saving you even more money*.  The FloWise** is the latest wonder in water conservation. 

Toto Lavatories

Toto, aside from being the name brand in Japan and America when it comes to bidets and washlets also makes a series of ecologically friendly faucets.  These “Ecopower” faucets have no handles, and are fully automated.  This aspect will save water in families with young children, so that parents are sure their kids aren’t letting water run or drip.  What’s really amazing is this faucet powers itself.  Included underneath the counter is a power box with two batteries for back up and a battery connected to a turbine.  With the faucet is in use, it spins the turbine and charges the faucets main battery.  These faucets save energy, money, and water.***
